▶ Your Answer :
As humans utilize and develop natural
resources, abundant species had been, or some are just about to be, facing
extinction. When the reasons are based on human activities, society should make
efforts to save the endangered creatures because people should be responsible
for the foreseeing imbalance in ecosystem due to the extinctions. At the same
time, however, saving other species is necessary regardless of that the endangering
is due to human beings or not because the extinction will impact on the nature
as a whole, in which humans are a part of it.
First
of all, if the suggested policy is implemented, endangered animals could be
saved, and which will lead to maintaining our ecosystem effectively. For
instance, American bald eagle, one of the endangered species by excessive
hunting by humans, has already been protected. Having the species saved does
not only mean preserving the bird kind, but also mean that ecosystem, or the
wild life food chain, can be preserved. If the eagles are extinct, the number
of the prey of the eagle (e.g., wild rats) can be soared, and which would be a
problem in the food chain system. Therefore, endangered species due to human
activities should be remedied.
In
addition to the eagle case, there is a red crab living in a river in Australia,
which has been endangered by a human-built dam. The dam hinders the crabs from swimming
from the river to the ocean, thus a majority of the crabs are likely to die
near the bottom of the dam. The dead bodies can pollute the water quality, and
which is likely to cause a bad living circumstances for the eco-system in the
river. It is apparent to see that the sordid river quality will impact negatively
on the natural environment in the area; and humans are not exception. If the
problem is not solved, people would not be likely to acquire seafood or
river-based resources anymore in the region. In this case, comparing to the former
eagle example, the extinction of the species may more directly and negatively
impact on human beings.
On
the other hand, if an endangering is not directly due to human activities, society
should put an effort to save the endangered species as well. This is because,
once a side of nature is broken, it will eventually impact on the whole system.
For instance, if a kind of animal is endangered by an unknown virus (e.g., a
cat), humans should deal with the problem because it can be harmful to other
creatures including humans.
In
sum, losing species in the nature by human activities should be prevented
explicitly by social efforts because imbalance in the ecosystem will not only
impact on the wild life food chain, but also on humans’ lives. Moreover,
society should pay attention on the other endangered species that occur not due
to the human activities, because the extinction of one species can affect the
whole nature as well. Therefore, human society should make a great effort to
save endangered species considering the fact that we, human beings, are a part
of the Mother Nature. |
