With a
cursory glance of the statement, to compliment good deeds while neglecting
wrongdoings looks seemingly correct. However, although I agree with the fact
that complimenting a good deed is an effective teaching method, the speaker
fails to substantiate the statement, because it did not take into account the
importance of correcting a problem for the purpose of education.
Complimenting a student or the person who is receiving teaching is a
proven educational technic as an effective motivational tool. Many researchs
and studies have shown that the act of compliment can actually be a positive
driving force by physically and mentally motivating a student: it stimulates
the level of the endorphin, thus reduces stress, and it helps a student
recognize the correctness of his or her action. It is said that a student who
constantly receives compliments will be more proactive in developing the
related field of study, because of the inner urge to be acknowledged. Thus,
complimenting a student is by far one of the most effective ways of teaching.
Nevertheless, the provincial truth contained in the statement does not
guarantee the overall feasibility of the statement. The speaker’s argument is
still unjustified, because the latter part of the statement negates the
significance of chastisement: a student can easily identify his or her problem
through receiving criticism. Ignoring a wrongdoing or negative action can be a
convenient countermeasure upon witnessing it. However, ignoring a fault without
no further punishment is quite equivalent to acknowledging the misbehavior.
This is quite detrimental to the future of the student, because he or she will
not be able to identify what was wrong and will easily fall into misconception
that the misbehavior can be tolerated. Thus, for the purpose of an accurate
education, misbehavior should not be treated with impunity, because doing so
would be as misguiding as acquiescing the problem. In
conclusion, a right teacher will praise good deeds while punishing a
wrongdoing, because by doing so, he or she can educate the student to be more
motivated and senseful. Teaching entails motivating and chastising. If one of
the two becomes dysfunctional, the education will be very misguiding. Thus, a
student must be informed of its fault upon commiting such action. |
