With
advancement of modern society, every aspect of thoughts of personal appearance
has altered, and while some proponents argue that there are some reasons
related to expending money on efforts to look younger, I believe that this
phenomenon can bring some negative repercussions in the future.
There are
various reasons why many people try to look younger with consuming their
substantial money. Firstly, most people have strong desire not to fall behind
fashion as social members, and mass media inclines to define standard of beauty
as youth with young and attractive celebrities. As a result, it leads ordinary
people to imitate them. Next, all human beings live to satisfy basic needs of
humans. In the past, people had to focus on resolving just their primary needs
of survival due to financial poverty. However, more and more economic growth
results them in material abundance, and it makes people's attention to be
captured even higher level of needs such as developing hobbies and
appearance.
In my
opinion, overspending on the outer appearance could provide a diversity of
demerits. Most of all, obsession with appearance has negative influences on
individual health as the most crucial value of people's life is physical
well-being, not external beauty. For example, in Korea, as plastic surgery for
cosmetic purposes has been prevalent among the public regardless of generation,
the side effects have been considerably increasing including from infection to
even death. Secondly, an investment in appearance to look younger than the age
might be waste of time and money. This is because humans need to be respected
for their own existence, and aging process is inevitable. It would be
worthwhile to expense their budget more productive works like family dinner and
leisure activities.
In
conclusion, although there are a variety of causes, I contend that people's
excessive expenditure on appearance to be younger will play a negative role in
near future. |
