People have different opinions on the consumption of agricultural products imported from other countries. Regarding this, some assert that consuming imported agricultural products is much better. This is because people can eat various types of agricultural products by importing agricultural products from other countries. However, there is a more persuasive argument that people should purchase domestic products to protect domestic agriculture. Both views will be discussed below as well as my personal opinion regarding this issue. On the one hand, people's choice can be widened by importing various types of foods from other countries. Moreover, people can eat agricultural products that they cannot obtain in their country by purchasing imported agricultural products. For instance, in Korea, people can enjoy mango nowadays by importing mango from other countries. Nevertheless, I support the idea that importing agricultural products has a negative influence on local agriculture. This is because many imported goods are low-priced. Their prices are very low so local farmers cannot compete with them. For instance, according to a recent survey conducted on consumers, a substantial of the respondents stated that they purchase cheap imported products more frequently than expensive domestic products. Because of this trend, competitiveness of domestic product has declined. As the example illustrates, consuming imported goods are not helpful for domestic agriculture. To sum up, while it is apparent that people's choice can be widened by importing agricultural products, it is undeniable that purchasing imported goods is unhelpful for domestic agriculture. |
