It is a common belief that individuals acting alone is really influential for solving the environmental problems. However, I firmly assert that individuals acting alone is not really helpful to handle environmental issues. I will further outline my argument below. Admittedly, it is undeniable that an individual effort is influential for the problems facing the environment. For instance, individuals can reduce air pollution by using less electricity to emit less CO2 or using public transportation instead of using their own car. Moreover, people can reduce water pollution by using less harmful chemicals like shampoo. However, despite the validity of the argument presented above, individuals effort is not really helpful to environment. This is because the impact of an individual's effort for environment is very insignificant. The amount of pollution a person causes everyday is far lower than that of industry. For example, the volume of water a factory contaminates is much higher than the amount of water a person wastes. In this regard, it is obvious that the individual's influence on the environment is really small. On top of that, there are various causes on environmental pollution and individuals cannot affect on all the different causes. For instance, smog is caused by factory operation, forest development and car emission. Therefore, smog problem cannot be solved by individuals acting alone. This demonstrates that individuals cannot affect significantly on environmental problems. For these reasons, it is clear that individuals acting have no influence on the environmental issues. |
