Most CEO of these companies chose the reason of declaring bankrupt is that their companies do not need to publish books in paper anymore due to development of e-books and devices. Only in the UK last year, surprisingly, more than a thousand of employees in publishing companies got layoff.
However, this change also has benefits. One of them is easy to access to content. People can enjoy reading books immediately after downloading them. They do not need to take time to get to bookstores and find what they want to read. All people need to do is few clicks. Not only this, they do not have to worry about carrying heavy books as they did in the past. E-book devices encourage them to read easier and more convenient. What’s more, people can read more books because e-books are generally much cheaper than the printed ones. In Korea, for example, the figure of adult reading rate has increased after prevalence of e-book devices. Among readers, more than 40 per cent of them use e-book devices, and the rate is still going up.
While the unemployment rate of the publishing industry due to the occurrence of e-book devices has been a new social problem, people should acknowledge and adapt this trend. Also, people are more likely to have convenient lifestyles, so this world needs to focus on the advantages of e-book devices.
