Demographic proportion of young people is in a rising trend
in some regions, which has helped some weaker nations to uplift their failing
economies. While questions have been raised regarding the positive impacts that
accompany the growth in the number of young workers, these definitely outweigh
the associated drawbacks.
The economic boost that accompanies a growing number of
young adults is quite well recognized and The Philippines is the best example. Research
has proposed that, due to larger young population, the country had been able to
thrive through its flourishing domestic markets which lead to increased
consumption, manufacturing and services. India is another nation in which the
growth in absolutely large number of outstanding, highly effective working age
group leads to innumerable prospects in terms of attracting investors and
multinational companies. Therefore, it can be clearly seen that larger labor force
benefits the local markets and uplifts national socio-economic status.
On the other hand, the rising of young population is
associated with increased incidence of crimes and antisocial activities, such
as drugs and gambling, which disturb public order and security. Moreover, the
government is also facing a challenge as to create many job opportunities that
is associated with increased number of fresh graduates. In this context, it is
worth mentioning that, by increasing production in under developed areas like
agricultural and adopting polices which encourage decentralization of
industrial activities, governments can control most of these negative impacts
of large young society.
In conclusion, even though the growth in work force has
accompanying negative ramifications, these do not outweigh the contribution
made by this phenomenon toward economic development. (267) |
