It is often argued that punishment is important to young children, especially at an early age. I completely agree with this idea and I think that schools and parents should teach them how to distinguish clearly between what is right and wrong.
There is no doubt that punishment has a prominent role to play in shaping child’s judgment skills dividing the boundary between right and wrong. Children lack the understanding of why some behaviors are good or not. This is because they are still not fully formed in their cognitive development. If they did misbehave, and there was no one who controls their actions, they would become more likely to grow in the bad ways. According to Child Cognitive Development Theories,
When children couldn’t shape their decision skills that discriminate between rights and wrong in proper at an early age, they could be more likely to be unable to adapt to our society in later life.
In addition, it could be lead them to become self-centered adults or even criminal. As a result, they need to guidance who can lead them the way to proper growth.
In my opinion, the best guide to control children is teacher and parents. They should them how to distinguish between right and wrong through proper punishment. For example, if the children, when they are in school or home, fought with someone or did misbehave, teacher and parents can make them take a self-reflection time. And then, they let them write self-reflection form and explain clearly the reasons why their actions were wrong. In doing so, children can develop their self-decision between right and wrong by reflecting why their wrong behaviors by themselves.
To sum up, I strongly believe that it is essential for children to shape their judgement dividing right with wrong, and both teacher and parents are the best guides as leading them to go right path by self-reflection.
