On the one hand, education should stay in
neutral position. Since teachers spend a lot of time with their students, sometimes,
even more than their family, the students are vurnerable with teacher’s response
to society and policy. For example, one survey illustrated that if a classroom
teacher had a conservative attitude to a community, the students in the class
were likely to appear similar opinions with their teacher.
Nevertheless, teacher’s reaction about
community and society could enhance student’s motivation to learn political
issues and society matters. Most of time, students tend to hardly understand
political issues, because they takes difficult terms and has complicated relation.
However, through the teacher’s language which students are accustomed to, they
are likely to figure out those issues more easily. For instance, when I was in
the middle school, I decided to learn politics because of my society teacher. That
was because my teacher was willing to express her feeling and opinion on the president
and politician, so, listening to her stories made me feel interested about political
issues.
All things considered, the positive impact
of exposing teachers’ opinions in class is much bigger that the drawback. All
in all, in the pursuit of student’s learning motivation on society and politics
, showing teacher’s opinions at class cannot be overestimated. |
