Your Answer ▼ From the biggining of 20th century, the problem of overpopulation in urban areas has raised mulitple issues. Among them, housing problem is a representative issue that we are facing in the era of overpopulated city.
The ground of housing problem has a long history. Since 'Industrial Revloution' in 18th century, cheap wages of manual labour field has led by highly competitive labour market with huge number of people, forcing these people to undergo under-leveled housing condition. Many landlords are pleased by seeing the long queue of house seekers and these seekers are surpised by the suggested housing fee that is much higher than expected compared to their salary. until now, even with the problem above, urban areas are vacuumming the people from rural areas by boasting limited job market called 'dream'.
To tackle this problem, many governments are adopting the public house policy. By constructing massive apartment complex around the city, governments are trying to meet the demends of citizens with reasonable price. Especially, this policy aims to target the most vulnerable people like eldery people with not enough pension, young couples, and low income familes. This approach is quite simple, governments just enlarge the supply of house against limited market. However, it is powerful.
Adding to that, targeting landlords by taxation authority is an another tool for goverment. Compared to an average income level, housing fees are extremly high. That means, income of one's labour cannot overcome the incomes from assets causing numerous despairs among the city not to mention the fixing a gap between the people. Thus, taxation to capital income, real estate market and powerful landlords can ease this dreadful housing problem in urban areas.
In conclusion, to sovle the housing problem caused by overpopulation, government funded homes should be built supported by a proper taxation system. |
