Undoubtedly, homework plays a significant
role in students’ daily lives in many of places they study and play. Whether
homework has a good influence on students is a contentious issue. However, I firmly
believe that students could get many benefits from their homework.
On the one hand, homework could harm a students’
creativity development. This is because most of homework have fixed formats
that students have to follow. Therefore, it is likely to decrease possibilities
in that students develop their own thinking. This is reflected by a research.
It shows that stereotypes of homework ruin students’ creativity and criticism.
These tend to force students to discourage their potential, which makes them passive
learners. In this regard, homework allows students not to be self-disciplined
learners.
Nevertheless, I think that homework is essential
for students because it could cultivate many qualities. Finishing homework requires
many duties such as managing time, abiding by rules, and self controlling. If these
traits are well developed, it is likely to bring a better result in school. According
to the study done by the Tokyo University Research Center, the researcher found
that those who did homework properly tended to outperform those who didn’t by
30 percent. To be specific, the former students showed a longer attention time
and a strong passion on their task. Thus, it is evident that homework is a necessity
for students to be a better one.
To sum up, even though homework has a
negative effect on a student’s creativity, it is a small part compared to the
benefits it has. Therefore, students should try to do their homework at their
best. |
