When it comes to grading a group project,
there is a growing debate over whether group members should be given the same
grade or they should be evaluated differently. Although it seems fair that all group
members get same grade regardless of individual’s contribution, I strongly believe
each group member have to be evaluated based on the level of contribution.
On
the one hand, there is an opinion that teamwork is important in a group
project, thus, for making students to have cooperation mind, overall
result should be graded, not based on the contribution each member. If project is evaluated
on overall result, group members can learn how to accomplish a goal as a group.
Nevertheless, for helping students to learn
how to prepare for the real world through the group project, grade should be
given depending upon their ability.
In reality, people who do not do their allotment are responsible for
what they do have done.
For example, in a sports team, the best player gets the highest
salary, and the rest get a differential rate of salary.
In
conclusion, while it is apparent that giving the
group the same score for students work as a team with better team work, however, in order for students to prepare for the
reality, it is necessary to score differently according to individual
contribution and to develop responsibility. |
