Childhood discipline and upbringing play a significant role
in the future of children who will grow older. Some people argue that parents
should not have their children to make their own daily decisions, in turn, the
society sees many selfish individuals. Others suppose it is imperative to leave
children with autonomy to decide whatever matters to them. Nonetheless, I
believe both points need to be carefully considered because these will impact
children’s personality and emotional intelligence.
On the one hand, society is likely to believe that parents
and schools should limit the choices that children can make for themselves in
the matter of what to eat, what to wear and what to play with. It is generally
considered that stringent parenting would help youngsters to foster good habits
and become altruistic. However, if your minds are always governed by adults’
decisions, the probability of them becoming dependent and indecisive
individuals are at a higher chance in the future.
On the other hand, conferring children with autonomy can
experience some drawbacks. Since children lack judgement skills to tell what is
good or bad, they need a certain amount of guidance. For example, a child who
is addicted to playing computer games is not willing to do his homework. In
this case, directing a child’s behavior is the vital responsibility of parents.
Allowing children to make decisions of their own is necessary in the
development of their reasoning skills and autonomy, however, parents should be
actively involved in children’s activities to guide them properly.
In conclusion, moderate interfere of parents in children’s
decision-making process seems to be crucial. This will make it possible for
society to have young individuals who are more likely prudent and self-sufficient. (284) |
