We can observe various
hotels and shops that are opening to attract tourists around some famous
visiting places. Beneath these changes, there are local people who reside in
the area and if we put ourselves in their shoes, there are clear advantages and
disadvantages.
With regard to advantages,
it is all about money. For example, if new hotels and shops can be opened or
constructed, they should buy real estate from local people who have various kinds
of lands and buildings. And when stake holders of new tourism industries are
sure about their future in new places, local people can sell their real estate
with unimaginable price to these industries. Adding to that, local people can run
their own businesses. Without huge expenses to real estate, they can open new
restaurants or shops in their own land or buildings that they have owned for a
long time. As we can expected easily, running their own small businesses without
monthly rent is like a big cash cow.
However, there are also some
clear disadvantages. As new hotels and shops are attracting more and more tourists,
their hometown is no longer their own hometown but the tourist site for all. The
road that they used to walk, the bench that they used to sit, and the calmness
that they used to enjoy will be gone forever. These changes mean that, their original
way of life can be distorted quite badly. Especially, comparatively not wealthy
local people who are only to getting on their daily lives without any spare
money to invest should endure these unwanted changes with their own with no
profit at all.
In conclusion, new hotels
and shops can open new economic opportunities for local people. However, their
hometown can be changes badly and these changes will be harsher for the local
people who are not well-off.
