Your Answer ▼It is true that overeating fast food causes serious health
problems. With a growing number of people from those health issues in some
countries, it seems that governments should put extra tax on junk food. However,
I do not agree with this idea.
Admittedly, imposing a higher tax on fast food could be a
reasonable solution on this matter. This is because one of the primary reasons why
people tend to have meals in fast food restaurants is the reasonable prices of
the menus they have. Paying only a small amount of money to get enough calories would
be a great attraction towards hungry people with less money. Especially,
students are also one of the main target of fast food restaurants as it is too expensive
for them to go normal restaurants for every meal. Thus, since the cheap
offers make people come to fast food restaurant, increasing the costs of junk
food by imposing a higher tax which will result in a drop in the number of customers of fast food restaurants.
Nevertheless, I personally believe that increasing the
prices of junk food will generate an unavoidable negative effect. As I mentioned, the major
visitors of fast food restaurants are those who with less money. In other
words, they choose eating junk food due to insufficient budgets for food. Being
not able to get to have cheap meals from fast food restaurants, there will be
some groups of people who will suffer from hunger as more money they should spend for every meal. Therefore, approving this idea should be more carefully considered as it
would require some sacrifices.
In conclusion, it is obvious that making fast food restaurants to
charge more pay from customers by imposing more tax on menus will reduce the number of
customers, and it will eventually lead to less people with the diseases from overeating junk
food. However, I completely disagree with this solution, worrying inevitable
sacrifices from some people. |
