I
don’t think it is a good idea to run free public transport 24 hours a day, 7
days a week to remedy traffic jams. People who they have a car already, they
will keep driving regardless of free transportation. And it also affects
negative effect to society.
First, if there is free public transportation for 24
hours, some companies will make their staffs work longer without extra salary.
For now, most of companies provide money for take a taxi for their staffs whose
work late until the last public transportation is no longer available. However,
if there is free riding anytime, company doesn’t need to provide it and also it
can be decreased staff’s motivation and work ability.
Second, people need time to take a break after
working. If there is a free transportation anytime, it will make them feel they
can go anytime they go home. They could work slower or hanging out with their
co-workers or friends until late night. Because they don’t need to pay
expensive taxi fare.
Finally, it has possibility to increase criminal. Some
thief and murderer will attack the people around at night. Because those people
are usually in the state with tired or drunken. And there will be not that much
of police officers and securities as compared to earlier time. To protect this,
the government will hire many people to work at night. Result of this, a lot of
taxes will be required to citizens.
In conclusion, running 24 hours transportation might
be a good idea in the short- term, however, it is not good when it is in
long-term. In addition, it will make society more tired than ever before. |
