The significance of children learning about moral and rule of society at a young age has been widely recognised throughout the world. This raised question about whether children need to get punishment or should not. Although some people are against punishing child, I believe that it is necessary for children to grow as a proper person. It seems negative that parents and teachers punish children. This is because punishment in the wrong way could hurt children, and it can be related to child abuse. Especially young children are delicate and have weak mental and body so that they can suffer from punishment. In addition, there are a lot of voices worrying about harms to children by punishment on media such as TV and newspaper. Despite all the concerns about punishment, I think some kinds of punishment are definitely necessary to educate children so that they can be grown up as good adults. The main reason is that children don't have proper rules about morals and behaviours which can be taught by adults at home and in school. Thus, when children do wrong things and make mistake, parents and teachers need to punish children in a correct way to correct and develop children's behaviour. That would be helpful to set a guideline in children's mind. For punishing children in right way, there are some types of punishment which can be allowed to use. Among them, One is 'thinking chair' which is a very famous way in Korea. When children do bad behaviour, parents or teachers make them sit the 'thinking chair' and let them think about what they did wrong and after a while not only let them know about that but also correct the behaviour. In conclusion, I totally agree that punishing children is significant for the reasons mentioned above and good ways of punishment can be very helpful to teach children. |
