▶ Your Answer :
It is common that some languages are integrated or not used anymore in modern society. Regarding this, some assert that these phenomenon will help our communication more simple and convenient. However, I strongly believe that languages not only used as communication method but also contain cultural values.
First of all, It is critical to preserving languages because it has various cultural and historical values. For example, In the past 500 years, when ancient Koreans borrowed Chinese characters from China, only a limited number of people were allowed to participate in political and cultural activities. However, after their own character Hangul was invented, a range of people were able to communicate comfortably and participated in literature activities. Thus, Apart from purpose of communication, languages has contribute to promoting and preserving the culture, and we still find many historical facts about own traditional culture through linguistic studies. Therefore, languages can not simply be evaluated in terms of convenience.
As result of technological development, people can use the devices that can translate most of the languages correctly whenever they need. Therefore, there is no reason to reduce the number of languages for easy communication. According to the report presented by Samsung Economic Research Institute, the technic translate more than 100 languages has already developed by using artificial intelligence, and it is expected to become universal with affordable price. hence, language diversity is no longer a barrier to communication.
In conclusion, although there are arguments that the simplified number of languages will bring more easier life to people, I believe that historic and cultural value of the languages outweigh that convenience. In addition, modern people have enough technologies to communicate efficiently without eliminating languages.
