Your Answer ▼ It is a common belief that it has more benefits to students studying abroad rather than attending schools in their countries. However, there is a more persuasive argument that this phenomenon affects students negatively in many ways because students are more likely not to study hard when they live alone in other nations.
On the one hand, students can experience another culture while studying abroad which provides more opportunities to get along with foreigners. Meeting people from different cultures and sharing their heritage widen one's vision. In today's globalization, this aspect may help them to get a good job and help one's career in the long run. A recent survey also reflects that cultural experience is one of the biggest reasons to decide to study abroad. More than 65 per cent high school students answered that they will study in other countries when they become college students to broaden their cultural horizon.
Nevertheless, some people, especially most parents, worry about this situation because students may not focus on their studies, even if they are not with their parents. It is absolutely true that studying a foreign language and adjusting to a new environment take a lot of energy and effort. This may cause students to give their studies up. From my experience, when I was in China before, many international students failed classes because they could not understand the lectures. Some of them have studied in universities even so far.
To sum up, while there are some disadvantages to studying in home countries, it is evident that the advantages of studying in domestic countries far outweigh the drawbacks. |
