Your Answer ▼ It is a common belief that governments should guarantee smokers' right because smoking is also one of the individual rights that some people may consider it important to maintain. However, I firmly believe that smokers almost always not only harm their own health, but they also affect negatively to people surrounding them.
To begin with, secondhand smoke has a negative impact on innocent people who do not smoke. Smoking smells really bad, in addition to this, it causes health risks such as lung cancer. As a number of smokers increase, those number of cancer patients surge at the same time. A recent study conducted by a research center in Busan shows that the number of people dying from secondhand smoke is burgeoning every year due to the increased numbers in smoking.
On top of that, smoking has a negative effect on the city environment. Smoke leaves a dirty residue on building walls and sidewalks. The residue is really hard to get rid of because of its sticky components. Thus, people may feel disgust when they see those dirty things all over the place. Furthermore, governments have to spend a lot of money to clean up discarded cigarette butts. This indicates that smoking makes city appearance ugly, and it contributes to the city's finance extremely bad as well.
To sum up, smoking leads to secondhand smoke which absolutely damages people's health, and it also affects the city environment in an unfavorable way. For these reasons, government should keep trying their best to fortify the antismoking policies. |
