It is great worth of discussing whether
students could have a right to choose the subjects or not. Some people state
that students should take courses what they like at the university. On the
other hand, the other people assert that universities should allocate useful
subjects to university students. Both views will be discussed below as well as
my personal opinion regarding this issue.
To
begin with, if students learn what they want in school, they will actually
enjoy the academic matter. For example, when I was a university student, my
university let me take lectures what I wanted. As a result, I really enjoyed
the classes, and put a lot of efforts voluntarily. Therefore, I eventually got
a good outcome. In this regard, it is evident that students can be motivated
and inspired by choosing the subjects by themselves.
On
the other hand, other people claim that universities should teach them that
will be practical in the future. This is mainly because students tend to start
their career as soon as possible after graduated the school. Students who
majored what employers want, are likely to have more opportunities to get a job
quickly. Moreover, according to a survey conducted by Department of Human Resource
Institute, managers prefers to hire new staffs who are well trained both theoretically
and practically.
In conclusion, although both perspectives
have acceptable points in deciding whether students choose the courses or not,
I take the view that students are motivated to study harder by selecting preferred
subjects.
