It is true that many corporations demand personal background such as families and
hobbies when they apply for a job. Some people think that it is
necessary for a company to ask individuals' data to foster a positive
atmosphere in their workplace. However, other people strongly believe that personal information could cloud interviewers' judgement and
also it is privacy. In the course of this essay, I will discuss both views and give my
opinion.
First of all, there
are some people arguing that personal information is useful when employers
interview their workers. To be more precise, there are specific characteristics
and atmosphere according to a group of people in each department of companies. Therefore,
individual's personality is essential to maintain positive energy among workers
when new members join them. For example, many employers think that individual's
character is more important than their knowledge and skills because of teamwork
and cooperation with colleagues. They believe that job skills can be easily
acquired from seniors, but personality cannot be learned and changed.
On the other hand,
other people claim that personal information could cloud employers judgement
when they engage new workers. This is because it is not objective data which is
able to demonstrate individual's capability, which means that when employers much
more consider individuality than professionalism, companies could miss
well-educated and professional workers generating numerous amount of profits.
In other words, it could bring about economic losses to corporations, as a
consequence. Moreover, it is individual's privacy, so asking personal
background could be rude behaviours and sometimes causes uncomfortable
circumstances during an interview. For instance, in Korea, there are lots of
companies demand personal information when people apply for a job. According to
media, there are many applicants who have experienced unpleasant situations
during a job interview because interviewers ask them about personal questions
not relevant to their post among other competitors.
In conclusion, even
if personal information is necessary when companies hire workers, I personally
believe that individuals' background is not useful because it is too much
personal data which could cloud interviewers judgement and sometimes result in
uncomfortable situations. |
