Academic Writing: A Logical Approach (since 2011)
Tutor: Grice (grice.jj.88@gmail.com)
Aim: Roughly, this course consisting of 16 lessons is designed to help tutees to master the basics or cores of how to write a ‘substantial’ academic essay required at college or more advanced level. (Here, I have implied by using the word “substantial” that they will come to have an ability to recognize what topic would be worth developing.) More specifically, it will help them not only to learn English-related technical points such as how to use a semi-colon but also to develop their logical/critical/analytic reasoning ability. The latter point turns out to be the most important element in writing an essay. In addition, the course gives them opportunities to write 10 essays, in which tutees practice what they’ve learnt; comments on English, style, and content will be given.
