Even though I’ve been living in the same house, neighborhood, and city my entire life, I know I would be happy to live in a variety of places. Moving would expose me to meet new people, new environments, and new lifestyles.
Even if I were to move to another city nearby, I would encounter new people. Each neighborhood has a distinct personality. If I moved to a new neighborhood, I would meet the shopkeepers and residents that shape the personality of the area. I may even adopt part of their lifestyles as my own so I could be recognized as part of the community.
If I want to encounter different environments, I would have to move outside of my city. Where I live now, it is the same temperature for the whole year. I would like to go to a place where they have four distinct seasons, where it’s warm, hot, chilly, and cold, so I can experience a variety of temperatures. I would like to walk in the snow and perhaps go skiing. I could learn winter sports if I lived further north.
Now of course, I live with my parents. Our home is on the first floor of a large apartment building. If I were to move, I would like to live in an apartment on a very high floor so I could see everything around me. I could also meet my neighbors in the elevator and we could get together for coffee in my apartment.
The more I move, the more lifestyles I would experience. I would meet new people in each new place. I could move to an area with four seasons or a frozen environment like Antarctica. Wherever I live, I would experience housing particular to that area. I would then be a citizen of the world, wouldn’t I? Could you call me a foreigner if I could call every place my home? |
