When people become successful, I believe it is because of one’s hard work, but luck has a lot to do with it. Success without luck is almost impossible. There is a quote that the French emperor Napoleon said to one of his generals, “I know he’s good. But is he lucky?” Napoleon knew that all the hard work and talent can’t make up for bad luck. However, hard work can invite good luck.
When it comes to success, luck can mean being in the right place to meet someone, or having good skills to get a job done. It might be a turning point for someone. Nothing can replace hard work, but working hard also means you’re preparing for your future job and success.
How many of the great inventions and discoveries came through lucky mistakes or lucky chances? There are so many of them. One of the memorable lucky mistakes in history was the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in the 1600’s. Actually he was looking for India, but, all he found was the ‘New World.’ However, Columbus’ discovery wasn’t pure luck. It was backed up by years of studying and calculating. He worked hard to prove his theory that the world was round.
Success that comes from pure luck and no hard work can be a real problem. For example, consider a teenage girl who becomes a movie star. Imagine she’s been picked up by a popular agent because of her pretty looks. She is going to feel insecure, because she knows she didn’t do anything to earn her stardom. On the other hand, think about an actress who spent many years to learn about and work at her craft. When she finally has good luck, then, she would become a successful actress.
People, who work hard, help to make their own luck by being ready for their opportunity and chance. When it comes through success, I think that hard work and luck would be your own.
