I strongly disagree with this topic that same amount of money should go to University sports activities as to University libraries. Although playing sports is a wonderful way to learn teamwork and exercise,. It should not be the principal focus of the University’s education.
Students at college will need the best up-to-date library staff or facilities available to reach their goal and improve their quality of education; however, paying for facilities is too expensive. They will need to have computers and have an access to internet websites where students can use to find information easily. If the University is offering its students just only the resources, it’s depriving those students of a tremendous amount of information.
Even if the university’s budget for books and magazines had gone up tremendously, more are being published on every subject as time goes by, and every University wants to have that information available to its students as fast as they can. It also creates financial problems for Universities to keep their libraries open. Students need to access all the libraries' research tools at any time. Since students are young and can stay up all night studying, this has lead many universities to leave their libraries open all night during exam periods. This also costs a lot of money, because the staffs also have to be paid extra money to maintain the library during the night and for extra electricity, heat, water and other utilities.
Students at Universities are only going to benefit from their education if they can get all the tools that they need. Sports are thought to be secondary resources that students need from the University. Therefore, I believe that libraries should always have better funding than sport activities.
