▶ Your Answer :
It is debatable whether comprehending the
past is crucial to being able to tackle obstacles facing us now and in the
future. This is an intriguing question because opinions concerning this issue can
be different depending on individual perspectives. In my opinion, however,
understanding the past is significant for people to overcome the obstacles now
and in the future for the following reasons.
To begin with, comprehending the past is
beneficial for people because it plays an important role in gaining a sense of responsibility.
To be specific, Through the consequences that arose from their negative
behaviors, people can learn the importance of responsibility. To illustrate,
people may realize that their selfishness caused their bad interpersonal
relationships. They can do this by reflecting themselves in the past. Responsibility
is considered as one of the most crucial characters to tackle obstacles in the
future. Therefore, it is very important for people to gain a sense of responsibility.
For example, Steve Jobs, who is the founder of Apples, made great achievement
in his life time. I read online that he was very successful because he always maintained
high level of sense of responsibility. He did this by his habit to reflect the
day before he went to bed.
On top of that, understanding the past
broaden people’s perspectives. It is commonly observed that people come up with
good ideas that have been overlooked by reflecting their past, which as a
result allows people better understand about themselves. Based on this, they
can comprehend others’ cultures, lifestyles, and perspectives. It is obvious
that broad perspectives are highly helpful for people to tackle their obstacles
in the future. For instance, in a study conducted by the Ministry of Education
of Korea, there was a huge difference between two groups of students in the
range of thinking at mathematical problems. Students in group A spent an hour a
day on average reflecting the day at night, while those in group B rarely engaged
in such activities. The research found out that students in group A came up
with more diverse idea than those in group B. According to the researchers, the
time of reflection facilitated the tendency to think deeply and widely. This
implies that reflecting the past serves as an effective way to broaden people’s
perspectives.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that people
should understand the past to be able to solve problems facing themselves now
and in the future. It is my belief that my argument regarding this topic has
been efficiently and precisely delivered with the reasons mentioned above. Never
should we forget that this issue may have a huge impact on our future.
