Some people say that teachers’ income should be determined by their
students’ performances. However, in my opinion, I think that it would make
result in bad conditions. This is because teachers would be too competitive to
teach students correctly and it is not fair.
To begin with, if teachers were evaluated by
their students’ achievements, they could exploit students as the method of
earning money. They would focus on the scores of students and ignore the real
value of education. For instance, there was a poll conducted by a university
newspaper columnist in University of Seoul in 2013 with 150 high school
students who wanted to enroll in the university and lived in Seoul as
respondents. The purpose of the survey was to understand the consensus view
about whether teachers should be judged by students’ results of college
entrances. The majority of people answered that they should not be evaluated by
that bad criteria. An overwhelming of 87% had responded that it is not a good
idea since there are many factors that could prove teachers’ competence such as
the students’ satisfaction rate of teacher’s classes. This survey demonstrates
that people have a negative view of judging on teachers according to students’
ramification.
On top of that, it is unfair because there are
students who are willing to study hard, but not good at studying. Teachers must
not discourage students who put much effort into studying even if they made bad
scores on the subject. Thus, it is unjustifiable that teachers are evaluated by
students’ performances. I will illustrate my friend’s story as an example. When
I was in high school, there was a man who really wanted to get great score on
Mr. Kim’s class who was his math teacher. However, he could not study hard
because he had difficulty of living with his family. He always tried to study,
but he had no choice but to skip his classes. At that time, my math teachers
was required whether to kick out his student or to be transferred to another
school if my friend did not achieve great score at the final exam. He did not
kick out his student and he tried to help my friend study more conveniently. At
the end, my friend had bad score at the exam, and my math teacher could not
help but moving to other school. This story shows that it is unfair that
teachers are evaluated by students’ excellence.
In a nutshell, because students should not be
a way for making money and assessing teachers just by their cover is unfair,
there are many disadvantages to judge teachers based on students’ performances.
In this regard, I firmly believe that teachers should be evaluated by another
proper criteria.
