The woman thinks it is a good idea for two reasons.
First, she says that lots of cars being parked on the street pose a danger to pedestrians. To be specific, it's difficult for drivers to see pedestrians cross the street now because many parked cars are in the way.
Second, she mentions that there are lots of spaces on campus that could be made to lots. To be specific, the university has outdoor facilities that are not used very often. So it's better to convert this space to lots.
For these reasons, the woman believes that the proposed suggestion is a good idea.
4. According to the reading, brook parasite refers to the phenomena that a bird relies on other birds for parenting their children.
The professor explains this concept by giving two examples.
First, the professor describes the cowbird. This bird lays its eggs on the songbird's nest. If the songbird does not detect foreign eggs, it incubates the cowbird's eggs and feeds young cowbirds. This is disadvantageous to the songbird's children because young cowbirds eat a lot and even push other birds to fall to the ground.
Second, the professor describes the duck which lays its eggs on other bird's nest. The interesting thing is that young ducks leave the nest just after hatching and can fend for themselves at an early age. This means that the brood parasite of the duck does not have an adverse effect on the host bird.
These two examples illustrate brook parasite.
5. The man's problem is that he cannot do the interview with the company's CEO that he wanted for the assignment.
The man and woman suggest two possible solutions to the problem. The first suggestion is to do research on his own without the interview. The second suggestion is to pick another company and try to arrange a new interview.
I think the second suggestion is better for him. This is because he already found much information about the company that he originally thought about. Most of information is so vague and broad that he cannot write a good paper with it. Also even if he will have to do the interview today, there will be a person who can spare some time for him.
For these reasons, I would recommend the second option for him.
6. The professor explains protective resemblance by giving two examples.
First, he describes that some animals temporarily change their appearance to avoid detection from predators. The flounder is a good example of this. It alters its color to match the background. To be specific, it has special skin cells that release diverse pigments to individual cells to blend into the ocean floor. Also its transformation speed is very fast.
Second, he describes that some animals have permanent patterns on their body to make them look like another things. The gecko is a good example. Its tail is like the leaf and its body is similar to tree's twig. The overall shape of this animal is difficult to detect easily. As a result, when predators look for preys, they are likely to neglect this animal.
These two examples demonstrate protective resemblance.
