3. According to the reading, the writier claims that the university should introduce the class evaluation sytem to allow students to make informed choices.
The woman thinks it is not a good idea.
First, she says that the policy does not help students to choose classes. This is because most of students sign up for classes based on the requirements. For example, she is taking a phsics class in order to graduate even if the class is infamous for excessive homeworks.
Second, she says that the policy can damage the professor's autonomy. To be speicifc, professors are free to select the class materials now. But if the policy is implemented, the univeristy will change the contents to match the studnet's preferences. Too much student's influence does not lead to the increased quality of the class.
For these reasons, she believes that the evaluation system is not a good idea.
4. According to the reading, illusion of transparency is the concept that peole overestimate thier internal mental conditions and think that others can discern their minds.
The professor explains this concept by giving an example.
The professor describes the experiment about lying. In the experiment, the researchers treid to find out whether people are able to assess other's ability to detect the lying. The subjects were given some questions and instructed to give truthful or deceitful answers.
The professors describes the outcome of the experiment. The result was that only about 20% subjects had caught other's lying. This is surprising because the subjects expected over 50% other subjects to detect their lying. The subejcts who lied felt much anxiety so they assumed that others could discern their lying easily.
This exampe demonstrates illusion of transparency.
